Ms. Oberdier was a long-time employee of the Duval County Public Schools, where she primarily taught 4th grade at John Stockton Elementary School, eventually transitioning to a well-deserved “retirement” lifestyle that included volunteer work at Ronald McDonald House and, most recently, Wolfson Children’s Hospital and the Boy Scouts of America. She was also an impassioned Florida State University fan, particularly Seminoles football, which she supported in person for 25 years as a season-ticket holder. She was a voracious reader in general and romance and crime/suspense novels specifically - when she wasn’t grading papers, volunteering, travelling the world or figuring out email and texting. Since moving to Jacksonville in December 1980, she was a regular attendee of Mass at Assumption Catholic Church.
She is predeceased by her parents (Wilbur and Norma Moniz) and is survived by her younger sister (Debbie Minaglia of Healdsburg, CA), two sons (Jim Oberdier of Palm Coast, FL and Steve Oberdier of Jacksonville, FL), niece (Julia Minaglia of Healdsburg, CA), ex-husband (Ron Oberdier), two daughters-in-law (Jessie Rivera of Palm Coast, FL and Kim Morgan of Jacksonville, FL), brother-in-law (John Minaglia of Healdsburg, CA) and several cousins.
A Visitation will be held in honor of Ms. Oberdier on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Assumption Church (2403 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207), beginning at 10:00 AM.
A Rosary Service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Church with Father Jason Trull on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, beginning at 10:45 AM. A committal service will follow the funeral a few miles away at Hardage – Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery (4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Fran’s name to Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald Charities of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Humane Society or a local pet rescue group.
