Born on August 18, 1945, in Perry, Iowa, Frank lived a full and meaningful life defined by his dedication to family, his passion for the railroad, and his appreciation for the many things that brought him joy.
A proud fourth-generation railroad man, Frank devoted much of his professional career to CSX, continuing a family tradition that spanned generations. His connection to the railroad was more than a career; it was a legacy he carried with pride. Frank also earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Detroit, combining his education with a strong work ethic and dedication throughout his professional life.
Frank was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was involved with the Jacksonville Navy League. Outside of work and community involvement, he enjoyed a variety of interests, including trains, reading, and traveling. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all kinds of sporting events, especially baseball. One of his greatest pleasures was watching his grandchildren participate in their activities and cheering them on every step of the way.
Above all else, Frank cherished his family. Whether attending a grandchild's game or event, sharing stories, traveling, or simply spending time together, he found his greatest happiness in being surrounded by those he loved. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and the memories they created together will be treasured for generations to come.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Upton; his children, Kimberly (Mark) Moore, Steffanie (Todd) McGarity, and Frank (Lauren) Upton; and his seven beloved grandchildren, Brittany (Brock) Wallace, Madison Moore, Nicholas McGarity, Sandler Upton, Zachary McGarity, Avery Upton, and Caden Frank Upton. Frank's life was a testament to the importance of family, the value of hard work, and the lasting bonds that connect generations. He proudly carried on his family's railroad legacy while building a legacy of his own through the love he gave his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in the many wonderful memories they shared with him and the knowledge that his love and influence will live on through the generations that follow. His greatest legacy was the family he loved and the time he spent with them.
Frank will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever a part of the family he held so dear.
