In loving memory of Franklin Dewitt Hodges, who passed away at the age of 97 in Jacksonville, Florida on April 19, 2024. Dewitt's journey began June 10, 1926 in Statesboro, Georgia, where his humble roots instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication. As a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Dewitt served his country with honor during WWII (1942–1946) later transitioning into a distinguished career in management at the King Edward Cigar Factory in Jacksonville for 37 years. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Norene Davis Hodges, sparking a bond that would endure for 76 years.
Throughout his life, Dewitt was faithful in his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a quiet man of faith who loved the Lord as his Savior. His love and commitment to family knew no bounds, and he provided for both his immediate and extended loved ones.
Dewitt’s natural talent and passion for working on cars and TV electronics helped him establish his own electronics business from his garage. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life — summer vacations fishing in Keystone Heights and backyard cookouts where he was the life of the party. His beloved dog Prissy was a faithful companion and gave him much joy. In his last years, Dewitt found great comfort and peace living in his own home in the embrace of his beloved wife Norene and the loving devoted care of his daughter Janice.
Dewitt is survived by his wife Norene and their children Dwight (Lori Hodges Williams) Hodges, Wanda (Paul) Moore, Janice Hodges, and Casey Hodges. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Duane (Kameron) Hodges, Daniel (DeeAnna) Hodges, Briana Moore, Cooper Moore, and seven great-grandchildren.
Dewitt's memory will remain as a man of strength and resilience for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road Jacksonville, FL 32257 or give online at support.communityhospice.com.
