Fred C. Pendley died peacefully at home after a brief time in hospice care on Friday, July 27, 2018 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 80. Fred was born on December 8, 1937 in Jacksonville to Walter and Audrey Pendley. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and proceeded to travel the world as a Merchant Marine. He lived in Chicago working as a chef and later moved back to Florida working as a water softener and water vending manager. Fred lived a fascinating life, earlier days hard and fast and then later in the joyful salvation of Jesus Christ. Every day he brought humor and a larger than life personality to everyone he met. He was equally comfortable with a church member or with an old rough around the edges friend. Part of his service in life was sharing the Lord in prison ministry for many years. He kept his arms open wide for an extended family who all knew his love. Along the way his hobbies included fishing, boating, motorcycle riding, and making a deal for anything from cars to tools or anything else that would bring him together with a buyer and a friend. Fred enjoyed being in the center of great conversations and time with many wonderful pets.
Fred is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Miriam Pendley of Jacksonville; his daughter Wendy (Bill) Villarreal of Illinois and three grandsons Jason, Brandon, and Ryan; his Daughter Vicky (Tom) Rorrer of Jacksonville and three granddaughters Brooke, Courtney, and Allie; his daughter Annette (Robert) Tomlinson of Mississippi and grandchildren Landon, Alayna, and Teresa; and his son Adam (Ryan) Pendley of Jacksonville; also seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son Walter “Jack” Pendley of Jacksonville.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Fred's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society in his name.
