Gabriel Carrillo, 81, passed away on April 13, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on January 27, 1944, in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1964, he came to the United States and began his quest for the American dream. He worked in dental laboratories and eventually started his own business, running his own dental lab for over 20 years. Later, he also became the owner and operator of GC Bus, a charter bus company.
Gabriel was always active and willing to help both friends and strangers alike. In his early years, he enjoyed racing his #26 Formula V car, hunting, fishing in the Kingfish Tournament and scuba diving. His interests ranged from cycling, working on cars (especially old Volkswagens). And later in his life, carpentry and reading were his passions. He lived a life full of hard work and adventure.
Gabriel was an amazing and very generous person who touched many lives. From changing a tire for a stranger on the Mathews Bridge in the rain to helping neighbors when something went wrong in their homes, Gabriel was always someone you could count on. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Clara Carrillo, his three children, Jorge Carrillo (Christina Salvatore), Maria Teresa Carrillo (Angel Mora), and Liz Coyle (John); and his grandchildren, Ava Carrillo and Jack Coyle.
A service celebrating Gabriel’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday May 3, 2025, at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32217.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul.
