MCCOY- Garrett David McCoy, 21, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014. Garrett was born on September 3, 1992 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL to loving mother Maria T. Glover and father Michael David McCoy.
He attended Orange Park High School and was a lifeguard at Oak Leaf before becoming a waterproofing specialist. But these things did not define Garrett. He is known for his spirit, his passion, his vivaciousness and his extremely generous heart.
From the day he was born, Garrett was a lover and protector. He was extremely close to his family and was truly a “mama’s (and grandmama’s!) boy”. He and his mother had the most special, close relationship with an unbreakable bond and he always had his brother Travis’s back. He had the most generous heart and in fact, he would give someone his last dollar or the shirt off his back if he could. He would stop at nothing to make sure his family was ok. He loved his entire family more than anything, and when his daughter Isabella Ann was born, he knew instantly the meaning of unconditional love. He loved being a father and loved Bella more than life itself.
Garrett was so passionate about the things he loved. Everything from sports, Florida State, rap music, writing lyrics, his shoes, Chevrolets, the beach, fishing, doodling for his mom, his family and daughter, Garrett made sure he surrounded himself with all that he enjoyed and loved everyday. He lived each day to the fullest. He was spontaneous and did and said everything with conviction. He enjoyed living in the moment, being the life of the party, and being the center of attention.
Garrett was also a true friend with a heart of gold. He was an amazing listener and one you could always turn to in a time of need. He would always have an infectious smile on his face and would do anything possible to make others smile. He just wanted everyone to have a good time and be happy. He had an everlasting effect on everyone he met and was an incredible force in this life.
Even though Garrett’s time here was too short and ended too soon, he accomplished the greatest thing in life… and that is simply, LOVE. He loved others and he was truly loved in return. Garrett wrote this just before he left this earth…
“If reached your dreams and die, then you lived. But if you go without a dream then your just dead - Leave your legend behind to pave onward – if I go today I saw my dreams come true, which is you BELLA ANN.” ~Garrett McCoy
He is survived by mother Maria Glover; brother Travis McCoy; sister Sara McCoy; daughter Isabella Ann McCoy; paternal grandmother Roseanne McCoy; maternal grandmother Florita Williamson; aunts: Lisa Paprukilo (cousins Nigel, Mansell, Ivan), Irene Genetiano (cousins Michael (Margaux) Hill, Christopher Hill, Ticia Marie Hill, Ryan Andrew, Renei Andrew), Rita-Maureen Snyder (husband Bill, cousins Sammi, Trent, Jessi); Javonna Peng (cousins Jasmine Williamson, Austin Williamson, Jaiden Williamson); other cousins: Christopher, Aiden, Jessi-Lyn Hill, Diana Hill, Oliver Hill, Paul, Rene, Jonathan, Austin, Bret, Sophie; uncle Donald McCoy; Brian Glover; girlfriend Jessica Mystkowski; and countless friends.
