Gayla was born in Tampa, Florida on September 24, 1959. As a part of a military family she had the opportunity to travel throughout her life to many places including Tennessee, Rhode Island, Virginia, Spain, and New Jersey. She spent her adult life in Jacksonville (Orange Park), Florida. She learned to speak Spanish fluently while living in Spain. During her time in Spain, at the age of 12 years old she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After completion of her treatment Gayla worked very hard to lead a normal and productive life despite the significant difficulties encountered as a result of this very challenging lifelong condition. She completed most of her schooling in Toms River, New Jersey and graduated from Toms River North High School.
Gayla had many interests, including attending church and helping in any way she could, volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul Society, working on her many crafts, meeting new people, and spending time with her family and friends. She worked with many different companies including Memorial Hospital and Goodwill Industries and finished her employment with Publix. She really enjoyed working and interacting with people. During her employment she was able to obtain her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license of which she was very proud.
This time of the year the holidays were always her favorite as she had just enjoyed spending time with the family at Thanksgiving and was really looking forward to and preparing for Christmas. Gayla lived her life in a very caring way, genuinely loving all that she came in contact with, and loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She spread much love in the world and will be missed by all that knew her.
In Gayla’s immediate family, she was predeceased by her mother and father, Susan and Gale Capley, sister-in-law Teresa, and oldest nephew Brandon. She is survived by her brothers Clifford and Timothy (Tara), nieces Emily and Ashley, nephew Grant and stepmother Debra Capley who provided excellent loving care and guidance for her over the last few years for which the family is forever grateful. All were the love of her life.
The family will receive friends at visitation on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard. The graveside service and internment will be at the Hancock Family Cemetery in Fort Meade, Florida at 11:00am on December 8, 2018. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in memory of Gayla to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Paul Catholic Church, 2609 Park Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204.
