George "Bill" William Jansen

George “Bill” Jansen, 88, of Mulberry, Florida, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was born in Atchison, Kansas on June 30, 1929. He moved to California when he was 10 years old and remained there most of his life. He married Shirley Waters Murphy on January 16, 2005.

In his younger years, Bill was a member of the United States Air Force. He later went on to have a career in insurance as an insurance sales representative for Allstate Insurance. Bill had a passion for playing music and was able to play any instrument he picked up. He was also a lead in the United States Air Force Band, and played concerts all over the country. He enjoyed building and repairing and working with his hands. Above all, Bill loved his friends and family. He was a great friend and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley Jansen, and his daughter, Florine “Lori” Jansen Shortell. He also leaves to cherish his memory several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.

I knew and played music with Bill in the 1960's in Napa, CA. He also go me to quit my Ma Bell job and hire on with Allstate. He was a good guy, and will cherish those memories of him showing up at the night club (where he led the band, played sax, and sang) playing his bagpipes!

Bill and Shirley were wonderful neighbors of ours in Mulberry. Although it was only a few short years, we enjoyed our many visits with them . Bill graced our neighborhood with many stories and smiles. You will be miss.
