George Gust Tatlas, 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 10, 2026. Although his battle has come to an end, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain with his family and friends forever.
George proudly served in the United States Navy, dedicating two decades of his life to his country. After his Navy career, he continued a life of service as a police officer and animal control officer, before spending more than 10 years as a commercial truck driver.
George loved the open road and some good rock ’n’ roll tunes. He especially enjoyed riding with the Combat Vets, where he became known affectionately as “Grumpy.” Which he was. He was blunt, but he was honest. Protective because he cared, and stubborn because he was George. You always knew where you stood with him.
George loved his family and friends in his own unique way. His love could sometimes come wrapped in grumpiness, sarcasm, and a few choice words, but underneath it all was a man who cared deeply about the people in his life.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Tatlas, who passed away just a few months ago. Their time apart was short, and we find comfort in knowing they are together again.
George is survived by his children, Gus Tatlas, Jennifer Cribbs, Kevin Cribbs, Christina Boyett; his grandchildren, Kayla Devens, Ryan Devens, Chase Clement, Shelby Vernon, George Tatlas, Alan Tatlas, Kyler Cribbs, and Callie Cribbs; his great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Kinsley, Levi, Liam, Jace, Lucas, Theodore, Samuel, Rayf, Xander, Dakota; and his sister, Irene Holt, and sister in law Maxine Wilkins.
He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, arguments, advice, and memories that will never be forgotten.
A Committal Service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, US, on October 16, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
