George was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1933 to Margarite and George Turain. He graduated from Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox, Massachusetts, where he played football. George graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1955 and later earned a Masters degree from Troy State University. He honorably served in the US Army for 21 years in military field operations and as a Ranger Instructor including service in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. George retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1976. Following his military service, he worked in Tallahassee, FL for the State of Florida Department of Labor and Employment.
George married his loving wife of 64 years, Marie Wadsworth Turain, in 1957. George is survived by his wife Marie, son Greg Turain, daughters Teresa Turain Wood and Celeste Turain, four grandchildren, and brother Robert Turain. George was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 40 years. He was deeply devoted to his faith and family and his loving presence and generous spirit will be greatly missed.
A memorial mass honoring George will be held for the family in Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
