

Gerald Canby Hutchinson (“Jerry”), age 84, passed away on November 9, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on August 31, 1933 in Knoxville, TN, the son of Nathan Marshall and Ethel Emily (Wheeler) Hutchinson. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was an Aviation Mechanic for the Blue Angels. After his service, he retired from Southern Bell as a Switchman. Jerry held active memberships with the VFW and NRA and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and working with his hands, especially building furniture. In his younger years, Jerry was also a weight lifter and boxer and had occasion to spar with Sugar Ray Robinson (boxing champion). Jerry is survived by his three children, Jerry Hutchinson (Stephanie), Mark Hutchinson (Debby), and Laura Hutchinson (Annmarie), his sister, Anita Youse (Dave), five grandchildren: Mark, Kara, Sean, Taylor, and Trevor, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Hutchinson, father, Nathan Hutchinson, and brother, Marshall Hutchinson. Over the years, close friends contributed generously to Jerry’s care – we extend our gratitude to all of his caregivers and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your local Animal Shelter or to Community Hospice.
