

LEWIS, Gerald G. “Jerry” Lewis, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, September 10, 2018. Mr. Lewis was born in Horry County, S.C. and was reared in Fair Bluff N.C., graduating from F.B. High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force, with a tour of duty in Turkey. He married Romelia “Mel” Gallegos on July 9, 1955, always calling her his “lifetime sweetheart”. After serving in the military, he came to Jacksonville to attend and then graduated from Barber College. He was owner of Jerry’s Barber Shop on 8th & Main St. in Jacksonville for 45 years, retiring due to his severe rheumatoid arthritis. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Bessie Dudney Lewis; and his sister, Alfreida Turner. Survivors include his “lifetime sweetheart” of 63 years, Romelia “Mel” Lewis; daughter, Tracy Lewis; son, Glen Lewis (Susan); 2 sisters, Jean Beck and Meryle Rogers; 2 granddaughters, Leslie (Rusty – deceased) and Madison (Dalton); 3 great grandchildren: Haven, Gabriel and Abigail; and many other loving family and friends. There will be two separate services. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 PM Thursday, Sept. 20, in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave., with Pastor Doyle Harper officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon Friday, Sept. 21, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Christopher Liguori, celebrant. Following the Mass, interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery, with honors.
