Gertrude Evelyn Bennion

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Evelyn G. Bennion at the age of 86. Born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1937, to Robert and Gertrude Greene. She resided in Jacksonville her whole life. She was married to Master Sgt. 1st Calvary Charles C. Bennion Jr US Army in 1960 until his passing in 1987. The oldest of three sisters, she graduated from DuPont High School and later attended Florida State University. She was employed for over 30 years with Sun Trust Bank and retired as Securities Officer. After retirement she worked part time for the Church of the Redeemer where she was a lifelong member. Her faith was important to her and she was very involved with the church as well as many charities. She loved going to baseball games and watching football being an avid FSU supporter.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father Gertrude and Robert Greene, her husband Charles C Bennion Jr. , sister Helen Hewes, great-grandchildren Dylan Bennett and Karter Moore. She is survived by her three sons Jeffery (Pam), Mark (Julie) and Matthew (Holly); six grandchildren Trisha (Ronnie) Bennett, Krystin (Brandon) Olmos, Courtney (Michael) Ortiz, Katelyn Bennion (Frank Moore), Joshua Bennion(Ally) and Parker Bennion. She also had seven great grandchildren Gavin, Hunter and Aubrie Bennett, Cooper Olmos, Riley Ortiz, Maya Stroud and Josie Bennion. Her sister Virginia Thomas and sister in law Betty McClure as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Gertrude will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A committal service will immediately follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
