Gloria Brown Skelly, 82 died peacefully on Thursday October 5th, 2023, at her home, 2936 Shady Drive Jacksonville, FL 32257. She was born in Clopton, Alabama on December 1, 1941, daughter of the late John F. Brown and Anne E. Little.
Gloria was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother for over 60 years. While she did work outside her home at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, she only did this after her sons were in high school. Her passion and purpose in life was the care of her husband and sons. She always placed them first and herself last. If her life were summed up in one word it would be “selfless.” She always had to make sure her “boys” were taken care of. It was hard to keep her from hopping out of her chair during dinner in order to serve someone else. Such was her heart for service.
Gloria made a profession of faith in Christ and was baptized as a child in 1947 and rededicated her life to Christ as a teenager. The fruit of the Spirit was very evident in her life. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5: 22 ESV)
She is survived by her husband Richard J. Skelly Sr., her three sons, Richard J. Skelly Jr., Gregory S. Skelly, and Thomas D. Skelly. She is also survived by her three granddaughters Sophia Skelly Creech, Chloe Skelly Mendoza, and Tessa Skelly Hosey as well as her three grandsons Tyler E. Skelly, Ryan A. Skelly, and Zach R. Skelly. Lastly, she is survived by her great grandchildren Allie, Selah, Lilly, Niko, and Isla.
There will be a private family graveside memorial at a date to be determined.
