

SPINNER.............Grant Frederick Spinner Sr. played the game of his life a few days ago, parring every hole, despite the shots into the water, into the rough, and into every sand trap. The odds were enormous but with his sense of humor and infectious smile, Grant knew what the goal was in the end. He met the challenge with courage and never wavered, his victory came on March 12, 2013, with his family by his side.Grant was born May, 23, 1935 in Niagara Falls, New York, to Fred M and Esther Baum Spinner. He attended Deveaux Military Academy in Niagara Falls, and at the age of sixteen moved with his family to Miami, Florida. Mr. Spinner graduated from Miami Edison High School. In 1955, he resided in Delray Beach, Florida where alongside his family engaged in real estate development including the construction of Del-Harbour Subdivision. In 1958 to 1960 he served his country honorably in the United States Army. Upon his return to Florida, he pursued a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from University of Miami and a Juris Doctor Degree from Stetson University College of Law. In 1967, Mr. Spinner moved his family to Jacksonville, Florida and embarked on a long and prosperous career as a Trial Attorney. He was a partner in the firm of Dawson and Spinner and continued practicing until his retirement in the late 1990’s. Throughout that time he was active in the community and in a number of organizations. During his lifetime Grant’s passion was golf. He enjoyed playing, watching, and studying, the game. There was no place he’d rather be than out on fresh cut course and enjoying a solid game and good friends. Throughout the years some of his best memories were at the Dunes Golf Club. His other passions were motorcycles, boating and the Miami Hurricanes. He was known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and happy disposition as well as his compassion for animals. Mr. Spinner was preceded in his death by his parents and brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his two children, daughter Lisa J. Spinner, and son Grant F. Spinner, Jr. (Carla), and their mother Joy Spinner Foster; three grandchildren, Justin Wiest (Farryn), Brianna Spinner, and Austin Spinner; sister-in-law Phyllis M. Spinner of Delray Beach, Florida; two stepchildren Kelly McLendon (John) and Jason Greene; two step-grandchildren Lauren McLendon and Kate McLendon; many nieces and nephews.Also mourning his loss is his devoted assistant and dear friend Betty R. York of Fernandina Beach, Florida.A Life Celebration for Grant F. Spinner in Jacksonville, Florida will be announced at a later date. Also a memorial service will be held in the John W. Spinner Memorial Garden at Trinity Lutheran Church in Delray Beach, Florida and will be announced at a later date.
