

Harold Jean Fricke passed peacefully from this life to eternal life on March 1, 2021. Jean was born on October 18, 1942 in Macon, Georgia to the late Harold Jean Fricke Sr. and Beulah Bassett Fricke. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda Coker Fricke and sister Meg Wilbur (Dean).
After graduating high school, Jean attended Georgia Tech University earning his Bachelor of Science degree. While in college, Jean enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Ensign Fricke’s first duty station was aboard USS Bigelow at Naval Station Mayport. It was during a dance at the Officier’s Club that Jean met the love of his life, Linda. They married in 1966. In 1972, they were blessed with their son, Daniel.
Throughout Jean’s 20 year naval career, he commanded several vessels. He also graduated from the Navy’s Electrical Engineering program at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Jean finished his naval career in Washington D.C. and retired to Orangedale, Florida. Jean and Linda then moved to Summerville, South Carolina where Jean worked as a government contractor. In 2004 Jean and Linda moved to Jacksonville, Florida and welcomed their grandson, Evan. Jean was a professor of mathematics for the Florida Community College of Jacksonville for about 10 years.
Jean and Linda enjoyed spending time with family and friends. They also volunteered for Gator Clowns of Jacksonville. “Shortstop” (Jean) and “Winda Woo” (Linda) enjoyed entertaining both children and adults at various events.
Jean is survived by his son Daniel (Andrea), grandson Evan, devoted dog Jojo and numerous family and friends.
He will be laid to rest with his beloved Linda at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. A private memorial service will be held on March 17, 2021.
