Harriet Stanley Slott passed away on May 1, 2026, after a brief illness. Harriet was born on February 17, 1945, in Anniston, Alabama to her parents Harold Calhoun Stanley and Lucy Willett Stanley. Harriet lost her mother at the young age of 8 and her grandmother, Boo, stepped in to help raise her. Harriet loved her grandmother dearly and therefore took the affectionate, if not unusual, grandmother name of Boo for herself. She was known as Boo not only to her grandchildren but to all their friends and their friends’ parents as well, all of whom she loved.
Harriet loved growing up in her hometown of Anniston and went to Anniston High and made lifelong dear friends. Harriet attended Auburn University and then became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines for a brief time. Later, she took a job at the department of clinical psychology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. It was there she met the love of her life, Arnold Herbert Slott.
Harriet and Arnold were married on April 22, 1967, at Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston, AL and then returned to Gainesville so Arnold could finish law school. Law degree in hand, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida. There they raised three wonderful children: Leslie, Adam and Kathryn.
As a lifelong Episcopalian, she, Arnold and their kids all attended Church of Our Saviour in Mandarin where Harriet enjoyed participating and even leading the annual bazaar, singing in the choir, and learning how to play handbells in the bell choir. It was at COOS that she met her best friends who made life more fun over ladies’ lunches and common interests. As young parents she and Arnold enjoyed playing tennis with friends at nearby Big Tree Tennis Club. Harriet’s greatest joy was being a wife and mom, but she also enjoyed decorating which led her to brief careers as a real estate agent and then an antique dealer. As an avid gardener, she found dear friends in the Magnolia Garden Club where she was an active member for many years. Arnold and Harriet were life members of Ponte Vedra Club where she enjoyed spending time with their kids, grandkids, friends and other family. They were also founding members of Epping Forest Yacht Club where Harriet enjoyed hosting family holidays and celebrations. Together, Arnold and Harriet lived in their family home in Mandarin for 45 years before downsizing and moving to the San Jose area to be closer to their daughters.
Harriet is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Arnold Herbert Slott, and her wonderful daughters, Leslie (Matt) Burt and Kathryn (Kristian) Villano, and grandchildren Tanner (Anna Kate) Burt, Austin Burt, Isabella Villano, Owen Villano, as well as loved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Adam Tyler Slott, and her older sister, Tyler Stanley Roberts. Harriet was a beautiful, dear, loving soul who treasured her family and friends above all else. Boo would do anything for those she loved. She will be missed, loved, remembered and honored by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service honoring her will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at The Legacy Lodge at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
