John was born in Owosso, MI on January 9, 1943 to Harry and Margaret Shier. He graduated high school in
Owosso, served in the US Navy and worked for General Motors Company. He then moved to
Jacksonville, Florida where he received his Bachelor’s Degree from he University of North
Florida and continued employment as supervisor of facilities. He eventually retired in 2021 and
has since been enjoying life on his property gardening and time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jan K. Michelsen (Matt) of St Johns, FL; two grandsons,
Bennett Michelsen and Brady Michelsen. He was predeceased by his son, Jon K. Shier and his
sister, Katherine Wiser (Harley).
John was a good father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family every
Sunday for sports and dinner or attending his grandson’s basketball games. He also enjoyed
gardening, cooking, anything racing or sports and traveling especially on cruises with family
and friends.
