Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, Cherry attended Miller Girls High School, and went on to college at Georgia Southwestern Jr. College, the University of Georgia, and finally Mercer University in Macon where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education. Her love of children led her to teach elementary school for 30 years, mainly at Jacksonville Heights Elementary School, and even after retiring she continued to substitute teach for another 10 years.
Cherry was a long time member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she married the love of her life 50 years ago, and baptized both of her children.
A self-professed “homebody” Cherry nevertheless got to experience her dream trip to Hawaii some years ago.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Art; 2 sons, Frank (Cindy) and Michael (Amy); 4 grandchildren, Emily, Joey, Missy, and Chris; and 4 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Alex, Zachary, and River.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15 at Murray Hill United Methodist Church, 4101 S. Edgewood Ave, Jacksonville, from 1 – 2 PM.
Funeral services will follow at the church at 2 PM with burial at Riverside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Murray Hill United Methodist Church for insurance/apportionment fund.
