

Hazel A. LewisHazel was born in Norwich, NY, to Lyndon and Norma Depew on Oct. 10, 1937. She was a graduate of Syracuse University with a B.S. degree in Nursing. Her specialty was Pediatrics and she enjoyed working with the children entrusted to her loving care while at Halifax General Hospital and then working with B.J. LaCour, M.D., in Daytona. She also was a nurse at the clinic at Daytona Motor Speedway.She was our family’s rock; an incredible wife to George S. Lewis, Sr. for 53 years; devoted mother of three wonderful children: Brenda Kay Cotter (Craig), George S. (Buddy) Lewis, Jr. (Tracy), and Gregory Warren Lewis; and loving grandmother to CPT. Philip Cotter (Sarah), Angie Cox (CPT. David), Spencer Lewis and Nick Lewis.She was the most giving, thoughtful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ask for, always thinking of and praying for her friends and lending a helping hand wherever and whenever needed.She was predeceased by her father, mother and brother, Warren.We wish to express our sincere thanks to all of her friends for their support. Hazel cherished your friendship. And we are so grateful to the physicians, nurses and staff at Mayo Clinic and the Anne and Donald McGraw Center for Caring for their compassionate and incomparable care. She will truly be missed and always be loved.Her family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, with a Rosary service 7:00 pm at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3383 University Blvd. N., with a reception to follow.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mayo Clinic, Northeast Florida Community Hospice or Resurrection Catholic Church.
