Hazel “Ruth” Young, 90, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on July 14th in her home after a short illness. She was born November 17th, 1934, in Townsend, Georgia to Charlie Young and Mamie D. Young.
Ruth grew up in Townsend and graduated from McIntosh County High School. Following graduation, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 17. She worked as a Southern Bell operator in the communication business for 30 years and retired as a supervisor.
Ruth had a passion for gardening and always cheered on her beloved baseballs teams: the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves.
Ruth is survived by Jerry Young (brother), Randy Squires (grandson), and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth is proceeded in death by Pauline Young (sister), Alene Bochette (sister), Billy Charles Young (infant brother), and Thomas Baker (special friend).
A visitation for Ruth will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 11am at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12pm at the same location with a committal after in the Chapel Hills Memory Garden.
