Helen Hiers Mathews

Helen Hiers Mathews, 87, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at her home. She was born in Jennings, Florida on March 28, 1931 to the late Phillip Edgar and Fannie Alderman Hiers and had lived in Jacksonville most of her life.

She is survived in life by her son Steve Mathews, daughter Karen Mathews-Batton and son Greg Mathews; her grandsons Drew Mathews, Jordan Mathews and Preston Mathews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Ben Mathews; her grandson Adam Mathews; five sisters, Mazie Connett, Alma Frantz, Catherine Arnold, Ella Mae Carter, Evelyn Henry and five brothers, Cleon Hiers, L.S. Hiers, Phillip Hiers, Kenneth Hiers and Thomas Hiers.

Family will receive friends on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00am with a Celebration of Helen’s Life beginning at 11:00am at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
