Henry “Bill” Brewer, 76, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on September 1, 2026. He was born on November 22, 1949, in Jennings, Florida, and moved to Jacksonville early in his childhood, where he would spend much of his life.
Bill was the son of Henry Junior Brewer and Ruth Hill Brewer. He grew up as part of a large family alongside his siblings, Ann Huerkamp, Ilene Wilson, Carolyn Knowles, Johnny Brewer Sr., and Rickey Brewer.
On December 28, 1973, Bill married Paula Melinda “Melinda” Brewer. Together, Bill and Melinda shared more than 52 years of marriage, building a life and raising their two daughters, Darby Ewing and her husband, Jeff, and Linsey Brewer and her husband, Shayne. Bill was also a grandfather to Griffin, Tate, and Parker.
Bill loved golf and could always be counted on for a competitive game of Boggle, a game at which his family considered him nearly impossible to beat. He and Melinda also shared a love of dancing, one of the many joys they enjoyed together throughout their long marriage.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Junior and Ruth Hill Brewer; his three sisters, Ann Huerkamp, Ilene Wilson, and Carolyn Knowles; and, just days before his own passing, his beloved wife, Melinda.
He leaves behind his daughters, Darby (Brewer) Ewing and Linsey Brewer; their husbands, Jeff Ewing and Shayne Padelsky, his grandchildren, Griffin, Tate, and Parker Ewing; his brothers, Johnny Brewer Sr (Lora). and Rickey Brewer (Kelly); and many other family members and friends who were part of his life.
Bill will be remembered for the life he built, the family he loved, the rounds of golf he enjoyed, the Boggle games no one could seem to win against him, and the many years he spent dancing through life alongside Melinda.
After more than half a century together, Bill and Melinda leave behind a lifetime of shared memories and a family whose story will forever carry pieces of them both.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 3pm at Mandarin United Methodist Church 11270 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Reception to follow at the church.
