Herb was born December 15, 1926, in Wichita Falls, Tx to Burt (Herbert) and Ellen (Sisk) Corpany. He was the last remaining of 7 siblings.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 18 and served in Japan in WWII, where he also graduated from High School. While in Japan, Herb was honored to have been General MacArthur's chauffer. While with the troops in Japan he was also a telegraph operator.
After serving the USA in Japan, Herb attended Southwestern Bible Institute in Waxahachie, TX. While there he met and married Ruby {Crump) Corpany in 1948. They were married 72 years until Ruby's death in 2020. They raised two children, Herb Corpany Ill (wife, Joyce) and Sherrie Edwards (husband, Lynn).
They had 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
As a teenager Herb desired to become a medical doctor; however, at the age of 20 he was led by God to enter full time ministry. He was an Ordained Assemblies of God Minister for over 70 years and he and Ruby began pastoring their first church when he was 21 and she was 17 and served as pastors in Texas for three decades. He had a passion for witnessing and winning souls for Christ and was involved with Light for the Lost and enjoyed overseas missions work. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and singing Gospel music as a soloist.
Along with his ministerial duties, Herb was a licensed mortician and funeral director for four decades and worked many years at the Waxahachie Funeral Home in Texas.
In addition to attending Southwestern Bible Institute, Herb also completed college courses at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas as well as Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.
Herb and Ruby owned and operated Grace's Dress Shoppe in Texas for 21 years. He also was a General Contractor - building several custom homes and a nursing home.
A fierce work ethic was all he knew, beginning at the age of 5 working in the family business. Later in life he was such a perfectionist he would oft times use a measuring stick while making up the bed each morning. His entire life, until very recently, he started his day at Sam.
In his late teens, Herb earned his Pilot License for a single-engine airplane and enjoyed frequently flying a borrowed friend's plane. Also has a teenager, he enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle.
Herb showed his love and compassion by always putting the needs of others before himself and lending a helping hand to all. After retiring from the pulpit, he continued visiting, encouraging, singing, and praying with people in their homes, hospitals, and nursing homes. Even at the age of 83 he logged in his Ministry Journal 681 individual visitations while having clocked 15,862 miles.
For the last 10 years he loved to read his Bible, pray for his family and friends, watch Christian T.V. and listen to Gospel music. For the last 20 plus years, each evening after going to bed he would turn his CD player on beside his bed and listen to his favorite medley of Gospel songs for an hour before going to sleep.
His heart's desire was to be in his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We rejoice with him as that long time desire is now fulfilled.
Herb's motto was: "A DAY THAT STARTS HAPPY AND ENDS THAT WAY TOO IS WHAT GOD HAS PLANNED FOR ME AND FOR YOU!"
A committal service for Herbert will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Jacksonville, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
