Ira “Scott” Haynes, 52, passed away June 16, 2018 in his wife’s arms at his home in Jacksonville, FL. Scott was born April 19, 1966 to his father Ira Haynes and mother Carolyn Haynes (Sanders) in Abingdon, VA. He grew up along the banks of Elkhorn Creek in Elkhorn City, KY. He enlisted in the US Navy in Feb 1986 where he advanced through the ranks to become a Commissioned Officer in 2004. During his time in the Navy he became a leader, mentor and friend to many. He and his wife retired from military life in Jacksonville, FL in 2014 in order to begin a hobby farm. He began work at North Florida Shipyards in early 2015 where he became Production Manager. Scott enjoyed his family life on the farm with his animals and garden as well as hunting, fishing, anything outdoors, collecting shark teeth at the beach, motorcycles, boating, scuba diving, baseball, UK basketball among many others. He was also a member of the NRA and a Florida Wildlife Commission Hunter Safety Instructor.
Survivors include his wife Lisa Haynes, his mother Carolyn Sanders of Elkhorn City, KY, his step-father Sammy Sanders of Elkhorn City, KY, his daughter Rachel Haynes of Pikeville, KY, step-daughter Laura Hilton of Jacksonville, FL, step-son Connor Hilton of Reno, NV, his brother Terry “Seth” Haynes of Georgetown, KY as well as nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Haynes.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Hardage Giddens Oaklawn Chapel located at 4801 San Jose Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32207. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:
