

Age 94; Date of death: Dec. 30, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living Community, Jacksonville, Fl.
Although born in Wayne County, Georgia, she received her high school diploma from Robert E. Lee high school, Jacksonville, Florida. Irene was a civil service employee of the Corps of Engineer (Jacksonville District) for over 40 years. She progressed through many positions in her career culminating as Chief of Administrative Services. During this time she was the first woman department head in the Jacksonville District and further, was a leading advocate for women’s equal treatment within the corps. Irene was also out front in emergency planning and implementing assistance for natural disasters. Although serving in the Jacksonville office, she was also in charge of administration for the Puerto Rico office. She was an avid bridge player and Friday night was a time for many friends to gather around the card tables. While growing up in the Christian Church, she later attended Lutheran services.
Irene was married to Frederick H Davis for 45 years - and at the time of her death she was married to Robert Blakeley. She is survived by one child, Barbara Mehaffey, of Georgetown Fl.; a grandson, Frederick Steven Winn, his wife Sandra L. Winn, and a great granddaughter, Ashley Winn-all residents of Roswell, Georgia.
