Some early history on Mr. Silver includes the following: Born April 1, 1923 in Telfair County, Towns, GA to William Vance Silver and Ola Eugenia Young. He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Their names starting from the oldest through the youngest are: William Luckes Silver, Hines Vickers Silver, Julia Dora Silver, Gaines Ballard Silver, Samuel Riley Silver, Isaac Jackson Silver, Callie Donna Silver and Lester Youmans Silver. Daddy was the last of the eight siblings. He was raised on a farm doing all the things required to complete the crop year. He plowed a mule, picked cotton, killed hogs for the family food, ground cane for syrup and worked turpentine. He graduated from Jr. High School in 1939 going on to complete his senior year in Lumber City, GA. His graduation day was May 6th 1941. After school, he joined the CCC (Civil Conservation Corp). He spent 6 months in the CCC and it disbanded. He went home for several months then went to live with his brother Vickers while working at the Seaboard Railroad until December 1942. He went home and spent Christmas with his family. This is when his father died, January 1, 1943. He was drafted in the Army February 24, 1943 and landed on Omaha Beach, France, June 1944. He was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. While serving with the 83 Infantry Division Company I 331 Infantry. He received 5 campaign stars and was honorably discharged November 30, 1945. He then went back to the railroad in 1948. He took a Civil Service examination for work at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL graduating in 1952. I met my wife Isabelle Willis during this time and we married on February 21, 1952. Then a sweet daughter was born, Sandra Gail Silver, born January 23, 1953. She grew to be a loving mother, giving us 2 fine grandsons, Christopher Paul Oglesby and Jeffrey Jackson Oglesby. Both of my grandchildren gave me a beautiful family. I taught Gail to fish and shoot. I was a hunter and fisherman and I used a 12 gauge Remington Semi Automatic which Christopher has at the time of this writing. Jeffrey has the 12 gauge Semi Automatic Browning. My hunting buddy, Lloyd Fleming quail hunted and we killed 1,034 one season.
I invested the rest of my life to family and it paid off. I love them all very much. To God be the Glory. He is so good to me. My Christian experience and testimony is as follows: I was taught from a child to be honest and truthful and have respect for my elders. I always tried to practice what I was taught, but I failed through the years even after I attended church regular. Reverend Frank Seagers held a revival at Woodstock Park Methodist Church in 1969. During this time, I realized I needed a Savior and I made Jesus my Lord and was brought under the conviction of God's saving grace by the Holy Spirit and became fully committed to Jesus. He did all he said he would do if I believed on him and I did. I started tithing and I have always had more than I could use wisely. I invested my life in my family and tried to set the example by being morally and dedicated to my Lord. For me to live is Christ, to die is gain. Much of this was written by Isaac Jackson Silver on 2/7/04
You will be missed beyond words my precious daddy, but one day we'll see you again. Until then enjoy your heavenly home and know that you'll NEVER be forgotten.
