
James Garland Day, (89), born April 7, 1926, died after a brief illness on June 23, 2015. He was born to Claude Wesley Day and Allie Belle Thornton Day in Walton County, Georgia. James was predeceased by his son, James G. Day, Jr. He is survived by Lois Clegg Day of Jacksonville; Donna Day Webb of Aiken, SC; John Wesley Day of St. Augustine; Dawn Day Hott of Tampa; and grandchildren, Matthew Webb of Washington, DC, Wesley and Corynn Day of Jacksonville, and Caleb Hott of Tampa.
Mr. Day spent a 43 year career with Independent Life Insurance Company of Jacksonville, achieving the position of Regional Vice President. He was a Certified Life Underwriter and dedicated his professional life to the financial prosperity, life planning and wellbeing of his clients. He was devoted to his family and an active member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and member of its Finance Committee.
The family will welcome friends on Thursday, June 25 between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville. A Celebration of his life will take place on Friday, June 26 at 12:00 PM, at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 State Road 13, St. Johns, FL 32259.
