James Lamont "Lanny" Newman

NEWMAN-James "Lanny" Lamont Newman went home to be with his Lord and Savior March 3, 2013. He was born August 19, 1941 in Jacksonville, FL to James and Marguerite Newman and he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville. Lanny proudly served in the National Guard and retired after working many years as a Manager at Bell South. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Jacksonville, and he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marguerite, and is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ann Newman; two sons, Mark Schou (Terry) and Bruce Newman (Alaine); one daughter, Christine Thomas (Gerry); nine grandchildren, Kalen and Matthew Schou, Jordan and Joshua Newman, Elizabeth and Colin Thomas, and Spencer, Marissa, and Bianca Sorkin; one sister, Beth Joest (Jerry) and one brother, Ronnie Newman (June); and three nieces, Cindy Newman, Sheila Newman, and Amy Winter (Bobby), great-nieces and nephew; several cousins and many good friends.The family will receive friends at a viewing on Tuesday evening, March 5, from 6:00-8:00 at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32211. The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 6, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, with a graveside service following at Arlington Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cancer Research at The Mayo Clinic, or Community Hospice of Jacksonville.
