James Paul Wasel

James (Jim) Paul Wasel passed away at the age of 80 on February 16, 2024. Jim is survived by his wife, Barabara, his two children, Chris and Pam, four grandchildren—Sophie, Tyler, Colby, and Mckenna—son-in-law Todd, daughter-in-law Laurie, older brother Rodney, sister-in-law Judy, and several nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Lottie Wasel.

Jim was born December 3, 1943, in New Britain Connecticut. He attended the University of Connecticut where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. After graduating from UConn, he took a position at the naval base in Newport RI where he worked his entire professional career, living in Portsmouth, RI, and Swansea, MA.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed woodworking and tinkering and fixing things. For a brief time, he had his own lawnmower business from home. Jim wasn’t a big cook, but he loved to make his pickles and pickled onions for the family.

Jim was very active in the Catholic church. When he lived in Swansea, MA, he was the leader of the pro-life group at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. When he and Barbara moved to Jacksonville, FL, in 2002, he continued to be involved in respect-for-life organizations at several churches. He also initiated the Divine Mercy ministry at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Padre Pio ministry at Immaculate Conception.

As Jim struggled over the last several years, his wife Barbara was a devoted, loving, and caring wife. He was blessed to have her by his side, and Chris and Pam are so thankful for everything she did for him.

We are also thankful to the staff at Life Care Center of Jacksonville, where Jim resided for several years of his life, and Community Hospice & Palliative Care who provided the extra care and comfort he needed in his final months.

We will miss you, Dad. Our grief is eased knowing that you are at peace and free from pain. Thank you for your love, support, and genuine interest in our lives and happiness. We love you, and we will continue to make you proud.
