James Boulden Waters, Jr. died peacefully on March 5, 2016. He was born on April 25, 1934, a third generation native of Jacksonville. Raised in Riverside, he attended The Bolles School and The University of Florida where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity. He served his country in the Korean War. Mr. Waters was a prominent local business man working at McCrory, Armstrong and Waters Insurance Agency for over 30 years.
He devoted his life to community service and helping those in need. He was President of United Cerebral Palsy, a Trustee at The Bolles School and on the Board of Catholic Charities. He was also involved with The March of Dimes, Willing Hands, Meals on Wheels and the Rotary Club.
Outside of business he enjoyed his three daughters and 10 grandchildren, boating, deep sea fishing, reading, studying the Bible and going to lunch with his friends. He was an avid sailor and loved to watch car races.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Perkins Waters; his three daughters, Shirley Waters Francis, Nolan Waters Mackin and Julie Waters Kredensor; and his 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Francis Evans, John Avery Francis, David Stewart Francis, Virginia Francis Cocke, Grace Anne Francis Wood, Janet Thornley Francis, Rachael Nolan Mackin, Matthew Alexander Mackin, Caroline Emma Kredensor, and Benjamin James Kredensor.
The family would like to thank all of the staff and caregivers at Riverside Presbyterian House and the compassion and dignity provided by the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 am in The St. Johns Gallery at the Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dr. Gaston J. Acosta-Rua Center For Caring of Community Hospice.
