

Mr. Jasper “Wayne” King was born on September 10, 1933 to the late Mr. Francis Lloyd Armitage and Mrs. Susie Kohn King. Both parents and six of his siblings preceded him in death, four brothers, Charles King, Charlie King Jr., Gable Armitage and Thomas Armitage; two sisters, Jane King-Kierce and Pearl King. Jasper attended Duval County Public schools, Wesconnett #116 and Old Stanton High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served two years. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked and retired from the dairy industry. His favorite pass-time was solving crossword puzzles, visiting and checking on his family members in and out of town. He was a life-long member of the Greater Zion Grove Baptist Church. Jasper’s loving wife, Claretha King preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory; daughters, Jacquelyn King, Sabina Lee (Kenney), Nona Dames-Twiggs (Armand), Edith Jackson, and Sandra Williams (Tyrone); sons, Kenneth Dames, Glenn Dames (Cathy), Richard Walls and Arthur Battles (Valerie); sister, Mrs. Terry L. Armitage Brown; sisters-in-law, Brenda Walls and Blanche Armitage; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends; and special friend, Mrs. Lonnie Kate Dames. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Greater Zion Grove Baptist Church, 6317 118th St. Jacksonville, FL 32244.
