Jay Frederick Brissell, affectionately known as Papa Jay, JB, JBones, and just about any other name, as long as you didn’t call him late for dinner, passed away in the serenity of his home and enveloped in love on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at the glowing age of 64.
Born October 2nd, 1960, in Port Clinton, Ohio. Jay’s family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida when he was a child. Jay graduated from Englewood High School and then went on to make the ultimate, selfless decision to join the United States Navy and serve his country. Following medical discharge, Jay decided to stay with the federal government and joined the United States Postal Service. He spent over three decades there, all the while gaining many friends that blossomed into many close relationships. He would go on to retire from the USPS and spend all his time doing his favorite activities. At the top was his wife’s honey-do list, followed by bowling, golf, loving the Florida Gators, and attending Jaguars football games; he was a season ticket holder since the inaugural year.
Jay was preceded to eternity by his parents Patty Jo Rigdon and Duane Brissell and his bonus parents Martha Jo Brissell and Emmett Rigdon. Jay’s memory is carried on by his wife Dianna Brissell; sister: Susan Caudel (Mike); brothers: Ray Eernisse (Amy), Ron Eernisse (Kerry), and Donald Eernisse (Melanie); children: Tamara Nichols (Kiel), Candace Nnaji, Dustin Morgan (Heather); grandchildren: Cara Lenzi (James), Michalye Lenzi (Alexis), Kristopher Nichols, Idris Nnaji, Zaiden Nnaji, and forthcoming grandchild this September, Roman Creed Morgan and first great grandchild in October, Athena Majken Selvig. Additionally, many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of close friends.
Knowing Jay was knowing how to take it easy and not take things too seriously. If you didn’t at least crack a smile in Jay’s presence, it must have been a rough day for you, but he usually found a way to get it out of you. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for your love and support enduring this extremely difficult loss. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to local Hospice Centers in Jay’s honor or purchase a beautiful wind chime and any time it makes a sound, know JBones is around.
A Celebration of Life will follow in the coming months, with a date to be announced soon.
