Jean "Foxy" Steele Sell

Jean was born in Paterson, New Jersey on August 28, 1929, to Frances and William Steele. Foxy lived her whole life in service to others. As a teenager, she was a member of the Paterson Recreation Figure Roller Skating Club, participating in a roller skate charity show at Madison Square Garden to benefit the March of Dimes. Upon moving to Jacksonville in 1966, she became a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was active in multiple roles there over the years, including acting as President of the Knights K-Cees, participating in the Council of Catholic Women, being a member of Circle 6, and serving as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. She had a special devotion to the residents of Harbor House and read to the first and second grade students at Christ the King school for over 20 years. In 1999, Jean and Howard were honored by the Diocese of St. Augustine with the Catholic Charities Good Samaritan Award.

Foxy never met a stranger and loved everything Irish. Her home was always open to priests, nuns, friends, and family. She regularly held court at Lynch’s and then Culhane’s Irish Pubs in Jacksonville, where she enjoyed singing, dancing, and carrying on – even though she didn’t drink. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Post (David Anderson) and Susan Daniell; stepdaughter Sherry (Rob) Ritchie; brother Harold (Cheryl) Steele; niece Sister Mary Ann Clausson, O.P.; grandchildren Shelley (Kenneth) Slaughter, Sarah (Christopher) Anderson-Fiore, Samuel (Brittany) Anderson, Alicia Daniell, Robyn Ritchie; and great grandchildren Lillian, Jason, and Emmaline.

A visitation for Jean will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME PA, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32211. A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Rd N, Jacksonville, FL 32211. A committal service will follow Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
