Jeff was a devoted and loving husband to Sharon; a proud and patient father to his children, Jed (Jane), Julianna (Donovan), and Jacob (Breana); a caring brother to Mark Chandler; dear nephew and cousin to his extended family; and a true friend to all he met. He was a coach at DuPont Middle School, a Deacon at the Church of Eleven22, and a brother of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
On June 25th, the day before he and his wife's 33rd anniversary, Jeff suffered an unforeseeable cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He passed away within the next week, and as an organ donor, a hero walk was held on July 2nd at 10am where he was followed down a hallway filled with people who loved him as he went to continue helping others.
Jeff committed his whole life to caring for others; he worked as a P.E. and health teacher for Duval County Public Schools for over 30 years and spent as much of his free time as possible volunteering at his church for any and every occasion, expressing particular fondness for the Nehemiah safety team and the student ministry.
Jeff held the belief that recreation is a way to re-create the bond between Earth and Heaven, to him play was an act of praise and worship. Hunting and fishing were some of his favorite ways to enjoy the beauty of nature; food, fellowship, and football (both kinds) are also things that he loved to share with others. Jeff loved laughter, loud music, and learning, a love he instilled in his children.
A true follower of Christ, Jeff never spoke harshly, didn't carry resentment, and never judged. To know him was to love and be loved by him. Everyone who knew him would say he was the kindest, gentlest, and most giving man on Earth.
Jeff’s celebration of life service will be held at the church of Eleven22, 4911 Losco Rd, Jacksonville, Fl 32257 on Saturday, July 18th at 1pm.
