Jeffrey Scott York

He was born on September 7, 1965 in Selma, Alabama to George Andrew York Jr. and Brenda Reppert York. He grew up in Tampa, Florida and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he attended and graduated from Forsyth Country Day School, excelling in academics, soccer and track.

Jeff continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he majored in English and was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1989, he went on to law school at Georgia State University in Atlanta, where he was appointed to the Law Review and earned his law degree in 1993. That year he joined the firm of Mahoney Hadlow & Adams in Jacksonville, which merged with McGuire Woods in 1998. Jeff then went on to build a long and fulfilling career as a corporate lawyer that culminated with his becoming a partner with the Burr & Forman firm in Jacksonville, Florida, where he specialized in corporate commercial litigation. He was listed in The Best Lawyers In America, recognized in Super Lawyers, and was a member of both the Florida and Georgia State Bars as well as the Litigation Counsel of America.

Writing was Jeff’s absolute passion, as was running, reading, fitness training, watching UNC Tar Heels basketball and Georgia Bulldogs football, researching Civil War history, listening to live music, especially his favorite band Wilco and, above all, spending time with his family and pets. Jeff will always be remembered as a devoted, loving and caring father, son and brother.

He is survived by his two daughters, Charlotte Cordes York and Elizabeth “Ella” Augusta York, and their mother Charlotte “Charlie” Overton York; his mother Brenda Johnson and stepfather Thomas “Tom” Johnson; his brother George Andrew “Andy” York III; stepmother Lynne York; half-sisters Linda Carlson and Amy Ruth; stepbrothers Eugene Johnson and Loren Soman; stepsister Jill Sherwood; his beloved dog Blue; as well as many relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, George Andrew York Jr.

A service for family and friends will be at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park Street, Jacksonville FL 32204 on September 12 at 2pm.
