JEWELL—Jessie J. Jewell went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2013. Although she was a native of South Georgia she had made Jacksonville her home since 1953. She was a member of Inner City Ministries and retired from Scotty’s Lumber Company on Lem Turner Rd. She volunteered 9 years of her life as the coordinator for the Riverview Senior Citizens Community Center. She never realized she was a senior citizen herself. In her heart she believed she was reaching out to help the elderly. She is survived by: 3 sons, Charles Jimmy Carter of Jacksonville, Dr. Ronald W. (Barbara) Carter of Fairfax Station, VA, and Scott Hill of Blackshear, GA; a daughter, Sherri Collins Mullaly; daughter in law, Gale Flemming Hill; her “adopted” son, Jerry Peterson; her devoted neighbor, David Colarusso and her closest companion, of more than 10 years, her beloved dog, Bratt. Ms. Jewell was one of the most devoted mothers ever known to man and as she entered into the gates of heaven it was with a banner reading “Job Well Done Faithful Servant. You Can Rest Now, Your Job on Earth is Done.” The family will receive friends at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave. Thursday, July 11 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, July 12 at 11:00 AM at Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA. The family wishes to say “thank you” to all the great staff of The Morris Center of Community Hospice. The family asks those sending flowers to send live potted plants instead of cut flowers.
