Jimmie R. Winter passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends, on Friday, September 9, 2022. He is survived by his wife Barbara, who he was married to for 56 years. He has two sons, Timothy and wife Gale, James and wife Angelina; granddaughter Priscilla Jones (husband Stephen Jones); and great grandchildren Ezra and Melina. Other family members include David Winter, Frank Winter, and Carol Winter-brothers and sisters.
Jim worked in the railroad signal design department of the B&O, Chessie System, and CSX. After retiring from CSX, he moved on to Southwest Engineering and Siemens Industries for a total of 50 years of signal design work.
A man who was always in motion, he created many beautiful pieces of furniture in his woodworking shop. Among his other hobbies were playing cards with friends, and motorcycle riding where he traveled many highways to San Diego, CA, Reno, Nevada, and up the east coast. Fun times were spent with Barb square, round and ballroom dancing. Everyone loved his quiet demeanor and witty remarks he added to the conversations.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
We would also like to especially thank our neighbors and friends and caregivers who helped us during this trying time: Abu, Deloris, Toni, Jasmine, and Pat. They were wonderful to Jim and kind to the family.
A memorial service for Jimmie will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 at 1pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223, followed by a reception.
