J.D. (Joe Dwayne) Bickerstaff, 55, passed away on Thursday, July 17th, 2014, in Jacksonville, Florida, after a brief and bitter battle with pancreatic cancer. J.D. was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Joe and Annette Stanford Bickerstaff, and raised with his sisters, Sandra Bickerstaff Foy, and Camille Bickerstaff Minor, and his brother Mike Bickerstaff. He attended Curry Elementary, Woodlawn High, and Jefferson State Community College. He was a natural born athlete, playing on school baseball, basketball, tennis, and cross country teams. J.D. worked in sales his entire life. He not only loved this type of work—he perfected it, starting in retail sales, moving into advertising sales, owning his own advertising sales business, and currently employed with Quirch Foods—which turned out to be his favorite job of all. Over the course of his career, J.D. lived in Atlanta, GA, Fairlawn, NJ, and finally Jacksonville, FL. In 1989, J.D. married Dawn Heen of Scranton, PA. They have three children—Joe Bryant, 22; Carly Ann, 19; and Luke Dwayne, 18, all born in Jacksonville. J.D. was a loving and devoted husband and father. He volunteered extensively at his children’s schools, and coached baseball, basketball and flag football for more than 15 years. He was a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide fan! If you didn’t know this, you didn’t know J.D.! J.D. never met a stranger, was never at a loss for words, and was successful at almost everything he set out to accomplish. He will be loved and missed deeply and forever on this earth by his family and friends. Until we meet again J.D….ROLL TIDE!
