

Johanna Wesseling Smith (Jobie), 95, of Jacksonville died at Fellowship Home in Valdosta, Georgia on December 7, 2020. She was born to Jan and Jacoba Wesseling and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville. She was a member of Southside United Methodist Church since 1947 and was active in her Sunday school class and in United Methodist Women. For many years she volunteered at Baptist Hospital, and for a time, was in charge of the hospital auxiliary. When younger, Johanna was an avid golfter and was a member of the San Jose Country Club Women's Golf Association.
Johanna was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Jennie Crawford and Margaret Wesseling; her brothers, William and John Wesseling; her husband, James L. Smith Sr.; her son Michael Smith and her daughter Janna Hartnett.
She is survived by her sister, Everdina Clark of Jacksonville and her son, James L. Smith Jr. and wife Russell of Valdosta, Georgia. Survivors also include her four grandchildren and their spouses, Drew and Elizabeth Smith and Evan and Tate Simmons all of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kimberly and Matthew Bricker of Detroit, Michigan and Shawn and Alison Hartnett of Pontiac, Michigan. Johanna is also survived by six great grandchildren and her niece Lisa Thomas and nephew Donnie Clark.
A private family graveside service will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southside United Methodist Church, 3120 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
