John Broward Cardell, Jr., 44, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on Tuesday, April 13th,2021. John was born November 19, 1976 in Jacksonville, Florida to Jackie Crews Matthews and John Cardell, Sr. John’s step-father Kenneth M. Matthews became an important part of his life around the age of ten.
John moved to Williamsburg, VA with his mother around the age of 10 where he attended high school at Bruton High School and Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA. After High School John attended New England Culinary Institute in Burlington, Vermont where he received his Associate of Arts Degree in Culinary Arts, John later attended Fortis College, Stuart, FL where he completed coursework as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
John’s passion was trying new and exciting things. John was a great Chef and was known to be a “foodie or foodsnob”. John liked trying new foods and was always looking for others to try his new dishes emphasizing the healthy aspects of his new entrée or side. John’s love of travel took him to numerous places throughout his career in the Culinary Industry. John spent summers in Nantucket, Massachusetts where he both worked and played. Of his many moves he loved living in Portland, Maine and Portland, Oregon. John loved new places wherever he was.
John is survived by his mother, Jackie Crews Matthews, his biological father, John Broward Cardell, Sr. and his Stepfather, Kenneth M. Matthews. John has numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who will also mourn his loss.
John will be laid to rest in a Graveside Ceremony at Chester Cemetary, 1621 Blackrock Road, Chester, Nassau County, Florida on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021 at 11:00AM.
