

John G Laxton, 93, passed away on April 8, 2017 at Heritage Crossing in Jacksonville, FL. A U. S. Marine veteran of World War II, he was born in Media, Pennsylvania, on September 14, 1923, son of the late Robert J. and Sara J. Laxton, Jr. After the war, John spent 35+ years in the marine industry. He began as a deckhand and retired as a tugboat captain for Jacksonville Shipyards. He spent many hours cruising on the St Johns River and enjoyed being on and around the water. In 1986 he retired and moved with his now deceased wife Agnes to Micco, Florida. They had a great adventure driving to Fairbanks, Alaska and along the Pacific Coast during their retirement years. He was a natural craftsman and remodeled many homes, built docks and maintained all the family cars.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Bobby and Frank; sisters, Charlotte Hicks, Sara Songey and Florence Owens; and his wife of 45 years, Agnes Marie Laxton.
Survivors include his daughters Nancy Freeman (Tom) of DeBary, FL and JoAnn Wilson (Mike) of Middleburg, FL; son, Jonathan Laxton (Barbara) of Azle, TX; sister, Roberta Bouchelle of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at a later date.
