
John Rankin Martin “Jack”, 95, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2014. He was born on April 23, 1919, in Washington, PA and resided in Jacksonville for 64 years. He graduated from Oberlin College where he was captain of the basketball team. After serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corp during WWII, he was employed by B.F. Goodrich Tire Co. as a district sales manager. Jack was a charter member of Lakewood Presbyterian Church and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He loved his family and planned many trips with them. He often traveled in his RV visiting national parks, friends and family. Jack spent much of his leisure time at San Jose Country Club where he enjoyed golf, socializing and playing cards. He is survived by his daughter, Sally Newkirk (Ken), 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Crowley Martin, and daughter, Margie Davidson. Funeral services will be held at eleven thirty o’clock in the morning on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Hardage-Giddens, The Oaklawn Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard is serving the family.
