Born in 1933, John grew up in Jacksonville, attended college at Emory University in Atlanta and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law in Gainesville. Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1957, he returned to Jacksonville to practice law and was a partner in firms including Mathews, Osborne, Ehrlich, McNatt, Gobelman & Cobb and Holland & Knight. He also served on the board of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and was a life-long member of Southside United Methodist Church.
John was predeceased by his parents Margaret Jones McNatt and the Honorable John Mathews McNatt. He is survived by his beloved sister, Margaret McNatt Moore, her husband J. Richard Moore and their children: J. Richard Moore, Jr., John Light Moore, William Mathews Moore, and their families including his seven nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Fl, 32207 on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following the service at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel.
