John Richardson Wright, 73, passed away on August 2, 2015 at his home in Jacksonville Beach surrounded by family and friends. John was born in Columbus, Georgia, on March 7, 1942. His family moved to Valdosta, Georgia and in 1960 he graduated from Valdosta High School. He entered Auburn University, and received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in December 1964. In January 1965, he joined the United States Steel Corporation in Fairfield, Alabama where he worked as a Supervisor. In September 1968, he entered the Graduate School of Auburn University. He worked as a graduate assistant in the Department of Chemical Engineering and received his Master’s in 1970. John was a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon and Phi Kappa Honor Societies, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. John was also a lifelong Member of the Board of Professional Engineers.
He married Angelina Villane, in December, 1963. The next year, their son, John, Jr. was born. In 1970 the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where John worked for Maxwell House coffee. In 1979, John began working for Planters Peanuts until the purchase of Southeastern Aluminum Products by him and his partner, Bill Jackson, in 1985.
John will be affectionately remembered as an avid Auburn Tiger fan. John's other passion was fishing with his granddaughter Olivia. John was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur and Helen Young Bates Wright.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Angie Wright; son, John, Jr. ; daughter-in-law, Angie; and granddaughter, Olivia, all of Jacksonville Beach; and his sister, Genie Wright, of Washington, DC.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 6 from eleven o’clock to one o’clock at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, immediately followed by the funeral service at one o’clock in the afternoon. The interment will be private, for family only.
