Johnny Harrison Gwynes Jr. passed away on April 16, 2025 at the age of 72. Born in Jacksonville, Florida he was the oldest son of the late Johnny and Barbara Gwynes Sr. Johnny retired from Edward H. White High School as a math teacher, student activities director, baseball coach, and athletic director after 36 years at Duval County Public Schools. He had a lifetime love of baseball. He played baseball for the Montreal Expos minor league team. He loved coaching the Ed White baseball team and watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball as well as any baseball game.
He leaves behind his wife and children; wife Cathy Gwynes, daughter Jennifer Eavenson (Mike), son Johnny Gwynes III (Anthony). He is also survived by his brother James Michael Gwynes (Wynelle), sister Nancy G Fishman (Ken) and 7 nieces and nephews. Johnny was predeceased by his brother Jack E Gwynes (Debbie).
Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at The Legacy Lodge in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
