Jon was born on August 28, 1942, to Rita and John Walsh in Milford, Massachusetts, where he was raised before relocating to Jacksonville with his family during his high school years.
He attended Terry Parker High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1960. Following high school, Jon joined the Army National Guard, where he served honorably for five years. During this time, he also began his lifelong career with Key Buick of Jacksonville, where he worked for 48 years.
Jon married the love of his life, Judy, on April 20, 1972, and together they welcomed their son, Danny, in the years that followed. Throughout their 52 years of marriage, Jon and Judy shared a deep commitment to each other, their faith, and their family.
Jon had a lifelong passion for classic cars and cherished the friendships he built through various clubs and social groups. He possessed an exceptional talent for understanding complex mechanics—there was seemingly nothing he couldn’t fix or figure out. With a naturally inquisitive mind and an instinct for understanding how things worked, he later shared this passion in cherished moments with his young grandson, fixing lawnmowers and spending time together in the garage, explaining how different mechanics functioned.
A true American patriot, Jon had an insatiable appetite for and profound knowledge of American history, government, and economics. Though he never considered himself the “academic type,” he was well-read, an engaging conversationalist, and a natural teacher. He shared his passion, wisdom, and experience freely, serving as a trusted leader and mentor to many.
Among Jon’s many talents and qualities, his humility and generosity stood above the rest. Always willing to lend a hand to a friend, neighbor, or anyone in need, he practiced selfless service and gave of his time and talents without expecting anything in return.
While Jon had many passions, none compared to his love for his family. He was a devoted husband and father, always beaming with pride for his son, Danny.
He was a man of conviction who never hesitated to speak up for what was right, whether popular or not. Thoughtful, witty, charming, and kind, he was above all else a selfless Christian man who chose to serve others, his family, and the Lord. He will be dearly missed.
Jon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy; his parents, Rita and John Walsh; and his sister, Judy Meade. He is survived by his son, Danny (Shelly) Walsh, and his grandson, Garner.
A service celebrating Jon’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Hardage-Giddens Chapel, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in a graveside service open to family and friends. The family will receive guests beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
To continue Jon’s legacy of compassion, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to The Jacksonville Humane Society.
