Joseph James Twomey

Joseph J. Twomey, age 75, passed away on November 10, 2011, in Gainesville, Florida. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Father, two Sisters and one Brother. “Joe” proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. During his 23 years of dedication, he received four Good Conduct Awards: a Vietnam Service Medal, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, two Air Medal (strike/flight) Awards, and a Navy Commendation Medal. He retired from service in May 1977, while residing in Jacksonville, Florida.

He is survived by his brothers, George Twomey (Mary) and Bill Twomey (Jane); his three daughters - Joyce Kellenberger (Daniel), Jean McKee (Michael), and Jacqueline Simpson; his grandchildren - Jennifer Morton, Lauren Parsons, Kody Parsons, Sharon McKee, Devyn McKee, and Jessica Hart, as well as three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7p.m. at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m., also at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel. Interment with military honors will followin in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32218. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Greater Jacksonville Area USO, P.O. Box 108, NAS Jacksonville, 32212-0108.
