Obituary of Joyce Elaine Connors
Joyce Elaine Hannon, born on November 23,1945. Daughter of Alice Gaynelle Erin Bass Hannon and Fred Earl Hannon, and step-daughter to Lorraine Woods Hannon. Joyce later gained five siblings: Gayle, Gary, Janice, Julie and Glenda. Joyce didn't excel in school due to undiagnosed dyslexia, but she struggled her way through earning her Associate of Nursing Degree from Jacksonville University in 1964. She crossed paths with John David Conners in the summer of 1954 at church camp. They would meet again later in the registers line at JU where their lives would be forever joined together. After a couple failed attempts to elope, (due to Joyce being under the age of 21) before David left for 6 months to attend a Class A School in California for the Navy. They would later be joined in marriage on January 1, 1966. New Year's Day might seem like an odd day, but to those who knew Fred, Joyce's father, it was so he could get the full tax deduction. If you knew Joyce, You knew she was very prim and proper, gaining the nickname "Little Miss Goody Two Shoes" while in college. Joyce was always a straight shooter and very determined. Her career success included work as a nurse at Baptist Hospital, as a claims adjuster at Travelers' Insurance, a preschool director, and then as a Realtor and Real Estate Broker for the last 35 years. Joyce was always involved with her church as a prayer warrior, WMU Director, or hospitality coordinator. Joyce had a love for gardening and was always involved with the local garden club wherever she lived. Roses, daylilies, and orchids were her specialty. She was a member of the Red Hat Society for a while, and a member of the Republican Woman's Club. Joyce was the mother of two children, Clayton Morris Conners and Jennifer Kathleen Conners, now Davies, mother-in-law to Edward Davies and Stephanie Conners, and Grammy to four GrandChildren: Connor, Paige, Nathan and Cooper.
