

Born on August 13, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, June was the beloved daughter of Winifred and Ernest Wilkie. Proud of her Caribbean roots, she carried with her the rich traditions of her Bajan mother and Nevis-born father throughout her life and shared them joyfully with everyone she met.
On November 25, 1965, June married her lifelong partner, Benthan Joseph Headley, an attorney in the State’s Attorney’s Office of Brooklyn. Their union was marked by love, laughter, and devotion, and they built a life together that was rich with family, friends, and purpose.
A graduate of the New York City school system, June dedicated many years to serving her community as a bank representative, retiring from Washington Mutual in 1991. Known for her energy and sharp wit, she was often described as a “firecracker” and “a pistol”—always ready with a clever remark and a warm smile. June had a gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, leaving an unforgettable impression wherever she went.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Winifred and Ernest; her sister, Laverne; her husband, Benthan; her sisters-in-law, Leona, Shirley, and Sarah; her brothers-in-law, Alfred, Godfrey, and Rudolph; her mother and father -in-law, Elmina and Joseph Headley; her cousins, Sissy, Lynn, and Dorothy; her niece Stacy and her dear childhood friends Hortense, Portia, Frances, and Audrey.
She leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by her devoted daughters, Jill Murray and Nicol Bell; her cherished grandsons, Elijah, Roscoe III (“Trey”), and Landon; her former son-in-law, Roscoe Bell, Jr.; and her faithful granddog, Max.
She is also survived by her nieces and nephews and cousins:

June is loved and fondly remembered and celebrated by her extended family—Lena and Flemon Buggs, Tammy Bell, Richard Vaughn, Taniqua Rivas, Felicia, Delvon and Al Williams, Sean, Felicia, Kaela and Kammy Williamson, Tina Sealey, Sweet Orange, Jonathan and Chantel Evans, Kevin Alexis, Janine Allen and Michel Henry, Charles Finch, and Noah Finch, Putzy Ford Jackson and Lorraine Brooks; with whom she shared over 30 years of treasured memories, holidays, and laughter.
June Augusta Headley’s life was one of love, humor, and resilience. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, located at 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, 32207, on October 4, 2025, at 12:00 pm.
A committal service will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
